Aware rehabilitators have the required state and federal permits to take in native Virginia wildlife that has been injured or orphaned.  We take in a variety of animals from the public at our homes and take care of them until they can be returned to their natural habitats.  We work with several veterinarians who treat wildlife, as well as the Wildlife Center of Virginia.  We abide by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) and U. S. Fish and Wildlife regulations.  We also attend continuing education classes every year to stay up to date on the latest information on the care and treatment of wildlife in rehab.

We have several volunteers who also, on occasion, take in unwanted exotic reptiles.  These sometimes will become part of our education team.

If you find wildlife in need of help, please go to the Virginia DWR website, look under
Wildlife & Habitat” then click on “Find a Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator”.  There you will find rehabilitators listed by county.  You will see their phone number and what types of animals they will rehab.
